That would be because the question in the OP presupposes the status of the responders to be Christians. Since he answered as a Christian (without any obvious disclaimer) . . . my question is reasonable.
I need a score card. I think your supposition about the OP is correct. The problem started with OP's response to Rabbidave and went downhill from there. Your question is indeed reasonable.
Christianity does seem to be very much about maintaining the status quo - so is it possible for someone of a socialistic bent, to actually be a Christian?
how about the Pagans - why is it acceptable to revere a God that was intent on wiping them off the face of the Earth in the past?
Republicanism and Christianity - are they a match made in heaven?
Christianity is probably the single most-misunderstood Religion on the planet. It is also probably one the most difficult Religions to practice. Fact is that the overwhelming numbers of folks who identify themselves as Christians spend most of their time cultivating rationalizations for why they are not required to do the very things that the originator of their faith pointed out. Lets face it....the whole religion boils down to just two rules and I know damn few people who call themselves "christian" who can abide by those two rules all by themselves.
Its not like there aren't churches on every street corner and a denomination to fit every race and pocketbook. But the fact is that Christians simply talk a better talk than the walk that they walk.
The Winter Solstice is an astronomical event. Any other use is coincidental. It seems to me that, if you want to argue about which is the real God/Lord/Supreme Being, that you should start a new thread instead of hijacking this one.
seeing as the thread title is 'Do Christians hate Pagans and socialists' - then this issue is entirely relevant.
Not to mention of course that I am the OP - the actual God of this thread
So if Ken wants to talk about the Supreme Being then Ken will. - capiche?
This is probably more a reflection of my personal values, but I see some value in taking stock of what a person REALLY practices versus what they THINK they are practicing. For instance, I have a passionate position against Abortion and its use as a form of population control. I think the idea of a species killing its young when it is capable of thinking-up other options is reprehensible on so many levels. Having said that, though, I cannot deny anyone the right of Free Will granted by the God I believe in. As a result I find myself in a VERY tough situation of truly having to hate the sin...but Love the sinner. Sometimes I think this is a kind of "special test" that God must give to "intellectuals" like myself (IE. "Think yer smart? Here, solve THIS one!"). At any rate, I think that discussions that force me to take a look at how I am really treating other folks---especially folks I don't agree with--- are very helpful. IMHO.
