The word worship comes from the old english "to find worth in something or someone". I think God knows he's great, but we do not and when we come to realize his greatness we worship him, not out of giving something to him but to our realization of how insignificant we are, and how much God loves us that he gave his only begotten son for us. He knows the numbers of hairs on our heads, yet the scriptures say "Who is man that you are mindful of him or the son of man that you visit him?"
