WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 475,000 people have signed petitions asking the White House to crack down on Westboro Baptist Church after the group, known for holding anti-gay demonstrations at funerals, threatened to picket in Newtown, Connecticut.
Newtown was the site of a school massacre on December 14 in which 20 young children and six adults were killed.
Five petitions posted on the White House website since the shootings have asked the government to name the church, based in Topeka, Kansas, as a hate group or end its tax-exempt status. The requests were among the most popular on the White House site on Thursday.
I'm in favour of anything that will keep those Moderator cut: Orphaned away from grieving people.
Agreed!
While I can't stand them myself if you take away there rights then what's to stop other people from voicing thier religous freedoms? And what freedom could be taken away next?
I'm sure the liberals have a whole list of freedoms they would like to take away from you, like the right to work withour joining a union or the right to keep a gun in your house.

Right, left they ALL have a list of things they want taken away from us. They are all the same thinking that one is better then the other is just naive.
As far as I know, there is no right to not be offended. Though I disagree with everything they stand for, I will stand with them proclaiming their right to free speech. As long as they are on public property, participating in their protests, we have the responsibility to move as far away from them as possible, if we don't want to hear their rhetoric. The government should be there to protect WBC's rights and to protect private property rights, as they should for every other citizen. Otherwise, the government should have no more interest in WBC.

Excatly if you take away thier rights then your taking away thier rights to protest & free speech. Which at that point you might as well take away the right of free speech all together.

I bet if they were threating to take away your rights to preach you might see it differently.
