When someone is going to break into a house, they often do it in broad daylight, what do you think they do before they break in?? They ring the door bell to see if anyone is home. DUH.

Home invasions often start out the same exact way.

Is it really any wonder that people are up in arms about the needless door to door some people do?

Anyone out of place in my neighborhood worries me for these very reasons. Its not about being unfriendly, if you run into me in the grocery store, the parking lot, I could talk your leg off AND I would help you put your groceries in the car too boot. Am I a vigilante because I don't want to be harassed at home? Because I think its impolite AND in facts its poor etiquette to just show up at someones home, NO.

Its this self absorption and tunnel vision effect that makes those that go door too door AND those that advocate it not understand, not even TRY to understand peoples reasons.

I have a girlfriend who had twins girls, she had people knocking on her door trying to convert her even though she had a sign to hang out saying her twins were napping, zealots would knock and wake them anyway. She was about to have a nervous breakdown trying to get them on a workable schedule. Can you honestly tell me thats unreasonable to expect to be left alone in our own homes?

What is this world coming to when the privacy of my own home isn't mine anymore. When I am subject to the whim of every wing nut that stumbles down the road.
But...your girlfriend must be saved! OR ELSE SHE WILL GO TO HELL! AND THE TWINS TOO! Because she is too "ignorant" and she wouldn't want to "wake up one day and realize her existence means nothing" and oh woe how horrible of her to deny the deity that brought her those twins

Mind you, many people are friendly and can communicate with anyone on just about anything, then there is a group of people who just rub people wrong, are introverts and basically do not know the first thing about carrying on a conversation, let alone spread the news of Christ to people.

If you remember, I am a Christian but I also hate it when there are some people who try to shove 'their religion' down my throat and tell me I am going to hell because I do not go to church, yadda yadda..( I do go to church now but at that time was disgusted at some of the things going on had decided to cool my heels for a while from that church)

Long story short, in any situation with a group of people, we are going to see those that are 'natural' people persons and those who are not. Some are nice while others are offensive and rude.

I am of the belief that God has commanded us to spread the good news, yet, he also does not want us to alienate people therefore we must use common sense.

My way of spreading the good news involves no words for the most part unless asked. I am of the belief that we spread the good news by example....living what so many preach! If I can be a vessel for the light of Christ to shine in my everyday life, I believe this is a great testimony of the gospel of Christ.

And if/when I am asked for more, I then talk. I do not talk to strangers about the gospel with my tongue, but with actions. For the Bible clearly indicates that the tongue will get us into much trouble, and I have enough trouble with mine to add to it!

It is my belief we can live the lives we are commanded to and speak louder than mere words could ever do, and at the same time, give no offense to others and just maybe reach them where words would have a negative affect.

just my .02 worth.

blessings to each of you....aiangel

That was total sarcasm on my part, by the way. I forgot some people might not have noticed my uh---non-religious stance.

Would you just smile and politely say "no thanks"? I hope so. But I bet a lot of Christians would have a few choice words to hurl and doors to slam.

Imagine then the atheists saying "Why are people so resistant? All we want to do is spread the great joy and happiness that atheism will bring everyone if only they would listen! Why are people so hostile to us atheists who only want to share our blessings?!"
What good news? What do you have to offer? A belief that after we die, we lay in the ground and there's nothing more? That we are the same as any animal or worm or frog or whatever? That we aren't created for a higher purpose and in the image of God but instead are here as a result of natural selection? Oh ya, that sounds like something I'd want to consider. Tell me more!!

Deb,

Although I can see your point, let's not forget that one of the key "selling points" many Christians use is the "eternal torture in a fiery place" sales pitch. I would hardly call that good news.
