God did not "invent" the Devil as such, but can use him to bring mankind to Himself.

Why does God feel the need to bring mankind to Himself?

Why does a father feel the need to have a relationship with his children? Because he loves them. Why? Because they are his.

A father's/mother's love for his/her children is different than having the kids to love them. Kids may not reciprocate, but that doesn't mean the father/mother must trick them out of it, even when they have absolutely no control over the kids take on the subject. I'm pretty sure the same applies to other living beings.

That begs the question... what puts such God in a worse position? One would think He, unlike humans, has the say of a Creator?

You made God sound just as helpless as any living creature, just as needy as any of those He created. And made him look worse by portraying Him as an entity that could create everything, could control everything but needs to play tricks to get His creation to love Him or else He would feel lonely?
