I read that there will be no funeral for him. What, they're afraid of protesters??
I've had multiple run-ins with Fred. I attended the University of Kansas starting in 1991 and I remember how shocked I was when I first met him. I worked for the campus newspaper and was assigned to take pictures of one of his protests on campus (I think he was protesting the ballet because, in his words, f@gs wear tights. Fred and his clan often targeted the Univ. of Kansas back then, which was very open to gay people.
Fred really seemed to enjoy looking at all the gay men though. I seriously think he may have been gay, and had a bad reaction to it lol! He was a twisted, psychotic man. Good riddance, although the family will carry on the insanity they were brainwashed into.
I hope he is very soon forgotten and that the media will quit giving his family the media coverage they crave, and spend a few minutes reporting the overwhelmingly majority of good people in this country.
Hopefully so. They thrive off attention, and lawsuits.
I recently read about a few grandkids of his that got up the courage to leave the cult. Some of them were able to think for themselves, and see the insanity around them.
"Can you preach the Bible without preaching the hatred of God?" Phelps asked in a 2006 interview with The Associated Press. "The answer is absolutely not..."
Sadly, that sounds like some people on these very forums.
He was a hateful man who promoted hate in this life. The truly tragic effect of his efforts was to invoke hate within those who would otherwise promote and feel love. He is now undoubtedly been made fully aware of his ignorance and the damage he has inflicted. "Weeping and gnashing of teeth" may not exactly capture the essence of his re-education experience. Ignorance is a terrible thing.
The article said he may have helped the LGBT cause because of his hate filled signs and actions. Glad that I am for the laws changing from state to state I certainly don't give him the credit.

Very true. But I'm very aware that the "general public" didn't care much at all when he was only attacking gay people. Once he took it up a notch and started picketing military funerals, suddenly there was outrage. In the early 90s, he would go to the funerals of gay men who died of AIDS and hold his filthy signs and shout at the family. Where was the outrage then? Those instances didn't even make the mainstream news.

I agree, I believe it was all media hype for them. I guess the media doesn't feel that good news sells.
