I don't necessarily agree with the light in transit hypothesis (I'm a young earther), but interestingly enough what we see in our telescopes is something of an illusion anyway. We are seeing stars as they were thousands of years ago, galaxies as they were billions of years ago. Just about all the stars from galaxies 10+ billion light years away no longer exist. So we are seeing illusions either way. Yet certainly billions of years fit our observations.
Not only that, but it's expected that the universe will eventually (in billions and billions and billions of years) enter a 'cold and dark' phase, where stellar gasses begin to dwindle and the last surviving stars use up the last of their fuel.

It is not possible for anyone who has a legitimate science education to believe in a young earth and universe, period. The magnitude of the denial of reality necessary to so believe is beyond calculation. Any pretense otherwise is pure bloviation.
That would be ok, but what we get of course is more a misunderstanding or misrepresentation of science or its findings in order to discredit it.
That also would be ok - I have had a LOT of misconceptions corrected over time, but what is not ok is when the corrections are made and they apparently simply bounce off the faith - cranium.
Ah, but see, it's one thing to have misconceptions about science. It's another thing altogether to know the scientific truth and deliberately try to discredit it with garbage.
You're right about the faith-cranium. At least you were willing to have your misconceptions corrected. Christian apolgists? Not on their lives. They'll continue to spout their nonsense even when they are proven dead-bang wrong.
Actually the earth is only 30 seconds old. We have been given instantly created memories of a past to confuse us and the entire universe was created to appear to be billions of yers old.
Now excuse me, I'm running off to file a patent for the wheel before anybody else realizes it hasn't been invented yet, just made to appear as if it was.

Um, wait. (naive moment ahead) There are actually people who believe God only makes the universe look like it's billions of years old, in order to confuse and test us?

Now there's some big paranoia, right there.
Seriously? Who comes up with this stuff?
If you read through the threads you will find a few "Young Earth Believers" use that idea to explain how there can be fossils millions of years old and the Earth only be something like 6,000 years old.
If the Andromeda Galaxy is 2.5 million light years away. How does that jive with creation being less the 6500 year ago?
It doesnt.
BTW there are some Christians who believe the Earth is 6000 years old and others who believe it is 10,000 years old. Using research from the same bible. Parties from either side are never able to prove their particular point of view because, after all, it is all based upon interpretation.

Huh?
Where in the Bible does it SPECIFICALLY state the age of the earth and the universe?
Where in the teachings of Jesus Himself does it state that in order to be saved you MUST believe in a young earth?
Has it NEVER occurred to you that God has invested a lot in helping us to grow up, to mature, to accept the wonders of the universe that He created, and does not demand that we continue to cling to our immature and childish views of His creation?
