I know this is kinda going to be a controversial answer and others will disagree, but I really believe that in order for prayers to be answered, the first prayer God wants to answer is your prayer to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. It begins there IMO. I think this is the first step to establishing a relationship with God and having your prayers answered. I'm not saying that God is in a box and won't answer prayers before we come to this place, but I really think this is key to being able to expect an answer from Him.
As a Christian, of course I believe that it's superimportant to accept Jesus as Saviour, however, I still have unaswered prayers. God does not owe us anything, what WE should do is thank HIm for prayers that He did answer.
i dont believe in jesus. just tend to believe in god. there is a difference right? but yes, i am reaaaallly starting to think this whole subject is pointless. there are no correct answers it seems. it's frustrating and im not going to ask any more questions cuz it's a waste of time.

I am sorry you're having a rough time, but I think you just answered your own question when you said you don't believe in Jesus.
I'm sorry you guys, but I still have to disagree about the fact that being Christian is the first step to get your prayers answered. God did not promise that, He did not promise that IN THIS LIFE prayers of Christians will be answered. He answers and doesn't answer prayers of people of all religions.

It's ok you can disagree and I disagree with you. I believe knowing Jesus is the first step to get your prayers answered. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with a personal relationship with Jesus. John 15:7 (this is Jesus talking) "If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you shall ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you".
He is not saying I will give anything you ask for. There are two things you must do according to this verse, abide in Him and allow Him to abide in you. These two things will produce His mind in you. Your prayers will be one with His, and the purpose of your prayers will be the same as His purpose.

Yes, however, we all know that it's still up to Him whether or not He will answer the prayers, right? And it's His prerogative to answer them or not, correct? And how many Christians suffer during their life here on earth? I believe that the most important thing about relationship with Christ is what happens AFTER this life.
ETA: by the way, it seems like representatives of every religion fancy themselves as the ones who have their prayers likely to be answered. I heard Observant Jews saying that by following all the traditions, they are getting blessings from God and also heard the same from Muslims.
The truth of the matter is, we are all connected, and God shall decide which prayers to answer according to His Plan in this world.
Last but not least, I believe that it's more important to ask God for guidance. I love asking God to show me which way I should go and guide me into the right direction, because sometimes I just don't know what it's right for me.

Actually I do have to say that it's very important to build relationship with God and of course I believe that thru Christ this relationship is best to be established.
I think just asking God for stuff is not a relationship. God loves communication, God loves praise, God loves gratitude - not just asking, asking, asking and then get dissapointed not to get a response. I hope we agree on this.
