Ok, so what? It has no bearing on the state of modern day Christianity which is non-violent unlike modern day Islamic extremists. It was pointless and offensive for Obama to make the remarks especially during a prayer breakfast.
It is not religion that corrupts people, and most wars in history are not caused by religion:
The LRA rebels stated that they fought for the establishment of a government based on the biblical Ten Commandments.
Quote:
As the years progressed, the LRA lessened their attacks in Uganda and began to attack other regions. They spread to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan, and the Central African Republic (CAR).

I'd suggest the problem is not having anything to do with Christians. This is a problem that reverent Muslims, Islam and global societies must confront. Obama simply threw in obfuscation of the issues.

But I think that the point that other religions have had to deal with similar issues in their past is salient. Unfortunately, I have far too many acquaintances (and family) who feel that all muslims should be expelled, and quite possibly killed, because they are an affront to the good Christian nations of the world. There is a real call for religious war in some circles, and the perspective would do them good.
Unfortunately, these people will not pay any attention because for them Obama is clearly a Fascist, marxist, Kenyan Muslim who has installed himself as the dictator of America for the sole purpose of destroying America and Israel, and should be impeached and/or shot, the order is unimportant...

The Spanish Inquisition was actually a false operation, they weren't after witches at all. It was to root out spies in Spain because it was again, defending against Muslims.
Hint: Christianity (usually) spread through missionaries, Islam usually spread through conflict. For that matter, there are no "convert or die" Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, or Hindu countries. There are a few such countries for Islam (Iran comes to mind).

Hitler needs to be taken off that list anyway. It is well documented that he was a Christian. We covered this in another thread a few months ago.
Hitler used Christianity as a rallying point (scapegoat technique). But he was not a Christian.
According to Max Domarus, although Hitler did not "abide by its commandments", he retained elements of the Catholic thinking of his upbringing even into the initial years of his rule: "As late as 1933, he still described himself publicly as a Catholic. Only the spreading poison of his lust for power and self idolatry finally crowded out the memories of childhood beliefs and in 1937 he jettisoned the last of his personal religious convictions, declaring to comrades, 'Now I feel as fresh as a colt in the pasture'", wrote Domarus.[52] Ultimately, Domarus believed, Hitler replaced belief in the Judeo-Christian God with belief in a peculiarly German "god".[52] He promoted the idea of God as the creator of Germany, but Hitler "was not a Christian in any accepted meaning of that word."[53] Domarus also points out that Hitler did not believe in organized religion and did not see himself as a religious reformer.[53]
He was however, a Darwinist.
Quote:
In Hitler's eyes, Christianity was a religion fit only for slaves; he detested its ethics in particular. Its teaching, he declared, was a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle and the survival of the fittest.

I see the crusades the same as this: How would you feel if the Native Americans came and killed and slaughtered millions of Americans to reclaim their land? Would you be OK with that because they were "there first"?
Sounds about the same as the Crusades to me.
