According to a recent Pew Poll, as we've realized on this forum, only a small majority of theists (47%) understand that scientists overwhelmingly support the Theory of Evolution. Is this only wishful thinking?

isn't 47% a large minority? Interesting that an even larger number of Catholics reject evolution, despite the Vatican's cautious acceptance of it.
Muslims generally never bothered about things like that but have noticeably been gradually climbing on the Creationist bandwaggon over the last decade. About the only thing they do agree agree about is atheism, and evilooshun looks becoming another.
Maybe more telling about those on this forum is that.
"Of all the major religious groups in the U.S., white evangelical Protestants are the most likely to reject evolution."

Actually, the majority 47% understand that most scientists accept evolution, while a minority 46% do not understand this. I suppose since 7% aren't represented, the 47% could be considered a minority if these 7% are included.

Ah.I'm with you. The Majority compared not to the whole but to the...takes socks off ...(ffeew)...uhh the lesser amount.
And.......enter Eusebius. Let the infractions begin.
Eusebius tells me that, worn out from his recent triumph over the best that atheistic Darwinism could chuck at him, he is going to take a month off to as the politicians say when a scandal threatens 'spend time with the family'.
His only reservation was that we atheists would 'muck things up' while he was away. I am doing my best

Your post is not quite accurate. Overall, 66% of Americans knew that scientists are in agreement on evolution. The 47% applies to those who themselves reject evolution. Your reference to "theists" incorrectly implies that all theists reject evolution. You should have used "creationists" perhaps.
I don't think this is a "misperception" but typical deliberately blinkered selective and/or distorted perception. Anytime someone thinks a thing when the facts are readily available with a quick search, is not interested in the facts. What they are generally doing is parroting something they overheard from a fellow Christian, like back fence gossip.

Thanks for pointing that out, that was my mistake.
