Well this is what happens when alleged divine revelation (which in practice is impossible to distinguish from imagination) is given primacy over "mere human wisdom". The anti-intellectual stance is predictable for an ideology based on suspension of intellect.
I will say though that it doesn't take expert-level insight to understand that the two are in direct and irreconcilable conflict. Notwithstanding that some philosophers have proposed that religion and science are "non-overlapping magisteria" because science ignores the supernatural (which itself is an illogical, useless and made-up concept -- so of COURSE science ignores it). These folks forget that religion and science represent entirely opposite
epistemologies (how one obtains and evaluates knowledge). And never that twain shall meet.
