Pressure mounts and will continue to mount to eliminate the religious tax advantages that currently exist. There is no reason for them, as this article well explains.

Americans are leaving religion. Why are we still subsidizing it? - The Washington Post

I agree, it's time to end it. Many churches are pushing politics (on the left and right) and probably shouldn't be tax free on that basis alone.

Fine then, let's do away with separation of church and state. Tax the church and then the church can now endorse political candidates and have a personal say in laws.

You know that any church can do that now if they wish. If they give up their IRS tax exempt status under 501(c)3, they can endorse political candidates and advocate political issues. Of course that would mean that contributions are no longer deductible and federal income tax returns would have to be filed and paid, but it CAN be done if a church wants to do it badly enough. It may even be possible to keep a state non-profit corporate status and remain exempt from paying property taxes, depending on state laws.

Quit confusing Jeff with facts, you know that he will never accept them.

No thanks. I've no desire to rip up the Constitution.

The sounds you hear are the founding fathers turning over in their graves

I expect churches to be taxed within the next ten years. There is nothing in the Constitution giving churches tax free status.

You might start looking for a wealthy benefactor.

Sure then the church who give generous to the programs of the poor need the tax exempt , as many liberal corrupt people prefer to starve out the poor people , which would be a dead end for America , as God needs people who are helping the charities , as God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because the rich king reject and poor and refused to help the poor people , so God sent brimstone and sulfur raining on the cities and pulverized them ....... Rejecting the charities of the churches will mark and end of blessing of God in America , and things will get even harder than today ....

Say what? What do churches paying taxes (or not) have to do with separation of church and state?
News publications pay taxes. I guess that didn't end freedom of the press. Gun manufacturers pay taxes, do we still have the right to bear arms?

It would be easy enough to allow deduction of all funds actually spent on charitable work.
