If it's a desire given to us by god, than why is it a "'sin"? Sounds like a contradiction.....

In my experience of Bible believing, 'saved', Christians, they seem to have a taste for lust BIG TIME! I know quite a number who have cheated on their partners, including a very close relative! One can only think they are/were of the 'once saved, always saved' baloney, thinking they will be waved into heaven by St Peter whatever they do. Although I am a wicked heathen I have treated my marriage vows seriously and have never looked at another guy in our 46 years of marriage. Mind you I have contemplated murder a few times.

I'm an atheist, and twice divorced.

Never in either marriage did me or my wife ever commit adultery, and I never had more than one partner I was sexually active with at a time when I am not married. How could one cheat and lie to your partner in that way?

On the other hand, I have a good aquintance who is a converted Mormon, now a SBC pastor, whose wife finds porno sites on their computer.

They can thank Augustine for that.

Yeah, was into the original sin idea and came to the conclusion that the sex act itself passed original sin, since original sin was contained in the semen that had begotten all the offspring since Adam. He even felt that if a man loved his wife too much, it encroached upon his love of God and could therefore be considered adultery.

Fun guy.

I'm in a study group and we are reading a history of Christianity. Augustine was covered in our reading just this past week. I had no idea, either.

We confuse and conflate being sexually open and mature (rather than prudish) with lust. The European nations have a grip on things.

That said, here's the deal with lust. You are turning what could be an intimate, and emotionally and spiritually fulfilling relationship, and turning it into a one night stand. Or you're making a real one, and turning it into a means to an end.

Sex should be an expression of who you are together. There are no rules, besides this fact. It is as kinky as you want. But if you are a stranger to that person, that sex is lust not love.

They are missin' out. Lust can be lots of fun. All adults and consenting, though!
