What on earth did we do before socialism? Apparently, there wasn't a Christian around then. Or, what we consider to be "social services" were performed by private organizations.

The Bible tells Christians to directly give to the poor. It does not tell Christians to create a government, and then use that government to handle financial redistribution.

There are reasons not to support universal healthcare in the short-term. One is that unless we shore up the problems that exist in our current healthcare system, handing it over to the government won't fix them, and will create an unnecessary tax burden on everybody.

There are reasons to support tax cuts to the rich, one being that increased investment will lead to economic growth and the creation of more new jobs. You may disagree with the efficacy of trickle-down economics, but that doesn't mean that all who support the concept are evil money-hungry rich people.

If we're talking about prosperity preachers who say that all Christians should be rich, that's one thing. On the other hand, if we're talking about Christians who vote Republican, then the initial sentiment in this thread is essentially putting words in peoples' mouths. Equating them with those who supported slavery or segregation is, at best, shoddy rhetoric.

Christ said to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and to give to the poor. He didn't say to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's, and hope that he does a decent job of giving it to the poor.

I think "the Religious Right" would sentence the Biblical Jesus to Death!

I'm sure glad I took the time to post. I could have just as well walked outside and yelled at my lawn.
