On Sunday, the Syrian children joined with local Jewish kids to light the giant Chabad menorah at the Brandenburg Gate. Aiman Mazyek, head of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, and representatives of Berlin mosques attended the ceremony.

I would contend that this is the point of religion, or supposed to be.

Religion is coming from from the same word root as ligament the connecting muscle in the body. "Religion" means to "reconnect". The idea being that there was once one big faith that everyone was a part of, but people went off and believed their own stuff, and this faith was lost in time. Religion is an attempt to "reconnect" with the sense of love and unity that is supposed to exist in the world. Sadly, what we call "religion" is often really dogma. We don't need dogma.

ideas by a group of people is represented in a flag. the flag is not the ideas, but it can be an anchor/rally point to help. of course, some people screw that up.

Looks good on the surface but: TheReligionofPeace - Islam: Taqiyya and Lying Some do what they have to to promote a religion and that is necessary when you are pressing for your faith to be the only faith.

It should be the point of being human, religious or not.

Prime Minister Trudeau of Canada set a great example also, greeting arriving refugees and personally telling them, "welcome home". No religion needed -- just human compassion and kindness.

Actually, the root of the word is Old French and Latin, from religare (to bind) through religio (obligation/bond), and finally the Middle English religion (which originally referred to a life under a monastic vow).

The closest it gets to 'rejoin' or 'reconnect' is (according to Cicero) 'go through/read again', from re- (again) and legere (read).
