For all those who scoffed at my claim that suicide is growing in the US, well here is my proof:

Quote:

From 1999 to 2014, suicide rates have been rising approximately 1 to 2 percent every year, according to the report by the National Center for Health Statistics at the CDC. The rise is a marked change from the previous decade when the suicide rates were going down.

The suicide rate went up 24 percent between 1999 and 2014, from 10.5 per 100,000 people to 13 per 1000,000 people, according to the CDC.

“We don’t know why. We would like to know why,” Jane Pearson, chair of the Suicide Research Consortium at National Institute of Mental Health, told ABC News. “Knowing it’s going up, we are concerned, but we are not surprised because we have seen this trend happening.”

I certainly know why. This is a glaring consequence when you kick faith and God out of the culture and society. We are seeing a rapid increase in suicide at the same time we are seeing an increase of people leaving the church and faith. Furthermore, you can find high suicide rates in countries like Japan where religion is not a part of the culture.

The ugly truth is that atheism and suicide are tied at the hip.

Quote:

Concerning suicide rates, this is the one indicator of societal health in which religious nations fare much better than secular nations. According to the 2003 World Health Organization's report on international male suicides rates (which compared 100 countries), of the top ten nations with the highest male suicide rates, all but one (Sri Lanka) are strongly irreligious nations with high levels of atheism.

Why doesn't god do anything about it?

It acts like it doesn't exist.

Another 20000 children will die of starvation today.

The better question is, if God is real, why doesn't he do something to stop all of these suicides? Why not show himself to these people who are so down on life they want it to end? Why let them all kill themselves, when he could just show them the light and stop it?

As the other poster said, it is as if he doesn't exist. Or maybe he just doesn't care?

If the only thing keeping a person alive is hope for that Pie In The Sky When You Die, then there are obviously bigger problems going on.

The economy here in the US has been terrible for the last 15 years. Good paying jobs have been going overseas while our productive capacity has shrunk, enriching the very few in the process. Combine that with crushing student loan debt and skyrockeying house prices (in many areas), and you've got a recipe for increasing suicide rates, especially among young people. Add antidepressants to the mix (which are known to cause suicidal thoughts in some people) and it gets worse.

What is the suicide rate in civilized countries like Canada, France, the U.K., Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark?

That means those 2.5 persons per 100,000 lacked religion. All since 1999. So Jeff I will give you the 2.5 extra people from 2014-2016, however you do not get the others.

Religion and Suicide: Religious Affiliation, Atheism, Suicide
The claim by the biased website adherents.com is patently dishonest. The country with the highest suicide rate in 2012 was Guyana with only 4% atheists, then Lithuania with over 77% Roman Catholic and 6.1% claiming no religion. Then comes Sri Lanka and Suriname, which is 10% irreligious.

Obviously, correlation does not suggest causation. More people are using cell phones now than they did in 1999, could that be the cause of the higher suicide rates? Or the increase in voters who registered as Independents? Or the increase in Korean car sales?

"Without alcohol, life is meaningless and not worth living."

"Without cocaine, life is meaningless and not worth living."

"Without heroin, life is meaningless and not worth living."

"Without God, life is meaningless and not worth living."

The opiate of the masses. Marx was more right than he knew.
