I have no idea what you are trying to say. Perhaps rephrase it.

No, I am simply talking about the scriptures, which decries cruelty to animals, but also instructs on what constitutes being a "good" slaveowner.

I understand that good folks such as yourself will pay attention to the things in the Bible that encourage goodness, kindness and love, and ignore the parts that cater to the depraved aspects of people. But that wasn't the point I was trying to make, which is that even the scriptures, despite having a lot of bad advice, has some things right, such as that you can tell a lot about a person's character / virtue by how they treat their animals.

Okay, as long as you don't throw God out with them.

If you chose to believe in the existence of some intelligence - hierarchy of intelligences (call it/them god if you like), fine, but toss away all the rest of the human-made detritus.

The thought never even crossed our minds

No, really. The god -claim remains as it was, even if religion goes in the skip. Undisprovable but unvalidated, and invalid. And that's all one needs to be atheist.

Treat them kindly until time for dinner. We probably don't want to look too closely at the suffering many of our 4 legged friends endure during their short lives in preparation for the grills and stoves of the righteous, most of whom loudly espouse their love for animals. Loving one's dog and eating someone else's cow is hypocrisy in the extreme. The Buddhists are among the few religious who get this right.

exactly
the hypocrisy is glaring
hypocrisy= "the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one's own behavior does not conform; pretense"

Fair enough. The previous post didn't quite read that way but it was my misinterpretation. Thanks for the clarification.
