...and interesting that the most gun deaths in the developed world occur in the USA - a country where more than 80% of the citizens are Christians...yet life is better with religion.

You really think there are 256 million Christians in the US? How many practicing Christians commit gun violence?

I would say in a country turning socialist. Liberal's thinking they understand the world puts us in far more danger than those believing in omni dude. My wife and kids are not in danger from cops and preist when they go out. Despite what liberals try and teach. What is funny is that their world is as make believe as omni dude'.

I've been married four times and only had one problem. And she's long gone.

It is hard to disagree with given I was not actually claiming it. I was offering up merely as an example of the TYPE of thing that can also explain the correlation JeffBase40 is mangling into a causation.

The point being made is merely that Jeff is trying to make a link between a recent increase in "mass" shootings.... and an increase in hatred and anger in the world. Mainly because it supports his narrative that this is in turn linked to a down turn in religiosity.

And my counter point is that correlation does not imply causation and there are ANY number of factors that would explain the increase in such shootings. Especially in a world where violent crime AS A WHOLE is on the decline.

I also think it has increased over the years too. Just not for the reasons Jeff is peddling. His narrative and MO is simply to link any bad statistic or event back to people simply not being god fearing Christians enough. And he will, regardless of how much dishonesty is required to do it, mangle any event or statistic to fit that agenda.

I am not sure myself how much "rules" have to do with it though as you say. I would need to read more on that. My own feeling is that it is not so much "rules" that are doing it but the ever increasing demands on time and resources that modern life puts on many people. Our lives simply are more stressful, more demanding, and often lived in areas of tighter and larger populations and competition. People simply have less time and energy for themselves and, worse, parents less for guiding and nurturing their children.

I think one of the reasons for decline in church attendance (which is what the thread is about) is indeed people moving away from religion and religious belief as they realize what unsubstantiated nonsense the majority of it is.

But I think another large reason for decline in church attendance is simply people do not have the time and energy for it any more. That hour and a half during the week or weekend is simply too valuable. Even when I moved from an area where my work commute was 30 minutes to one where my commute was under 15....... I noticed a MASSIVE leap in my quality of life and well being..... and that of my children.

A single hour for church SOUNDS small, but is ever more valuable in our "modern" society.
