I would pick up and read the Quran, but I've heard that you need to know Arabic to read it in its purest form. Learning fluent Arabic can take awhile, but I am a little concerned that if I don't read the original writings myself or without translation from a trusted source, someone may try to tell me HOW I'm supposed to interpret it, which is not what I am looking for.

Islam is NOT a religion like the others. It is a theocratic Deen which means there is no separation between government and God. It cannot assimilate into countries with secular laws and will only temporarily pretend to do so until they have the numbers to dominate. Under a dominant Islam, there are only two possibilities for those who do NOT submit to Allah and His requirements:
1. Slavery in the form of a tax and inferior status for members of Book.
2. Death
