On average, Jews receive 13.4 years of formal schooling, Christians 9.3 years, Buddhists 7.9 years, and Muslims and Hindus 5.6 years. Those with no religious affiliation have 8.8 years of schooling.
This isn't very surprising considering that Judaism and Christianity predominate in the developed world and this was a global study. Hindus, for example, have high levels of educational achievement in developed countries, but are at the bottom of this list simply because places like India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Trinidad, Bali, and Fiji are all economically developing. So this poll isn't very surprising at all, and doesn't really have much to do with the religions themselves.
The study that's the subject of this thread is worldwide. From the article:"Pew Research revealed in a December 2016 report titled “Religion and Education Around the World” that educational attainment varies by religion."

Yes - it might give a different view to see a breakdown by country. When you think of it, Jews are going be either living in Israel or the West. Either way, they have western schooling rates. Then again 'Unailliated' may get a boost from China and Japan. Hindus are perhaps pulled back by a need to make a living rather than get an education. There could be all sorts of factors shaping the stats.

I would actually guess that unaffiliated takes a swandive because of China. While China has a growing middle class of educated workers, less than a quarter of their population graduates from high school.
This study also takes into account nominal Christians in highly educated Nordic countries, for instance. I'd love to see more of a breakdown, for sure!
The western world has done a great job of educating it's citizenry...they have great formalized education and all religions benefit from it.
Interesting to note that Hindus & Muslims are more educated than the average population in the USA & Canada.
In other words the correlation here doesn't equal causation. The root cause of higher education levels is *where* you reside, not so much the religion you follow.
