That was a ruse, to explain how he knew the cup was in there, thus keeping his identity and what he did secret to ensure they brought his father to Egypt also. The gifts he had (interpretation of dreams) are from the Spirit of G-d, not demonic entities, which are what give such information apart from the Spirit of G-d.
