I didn't even know that this was a big issue (except in Muslim countries), but although many countries still have blasphemy laws on the books, I am surprised that there would be any resistance to them in a modern society for their removal.

Denmark’s Blasphemy Law Has Been Repealed

Even in USA some states and in Canada, the criminal code, have blasphemy sections in them. Why? That appears to conflict with freedom of and from religion, doesn't it?

Book burning is not illegal.

Unless of course; You burn those books in the middle of the forest setting half the State on fire, with million in loss.

Blasphemy would be the least of your problems.

So, kidz. The moral is; Do not burn books. Any book.

This has been a public service announcement.

These laws are on the books in name only. They can't legally be enforced. There are all sorts of crazy laws that would violate all sorts of Constitutional rights if enforced. Legislatures just haven't taken the time to remove them.

Then why are they still on the books? Seriously, why?

Legislatures have better things to do than search for and repeal laws from bygone centuries that aren't enforceable and aren't trying to be enforced today.

And repealing laws is expensive. I think that in Calgary you are eligible to get a horse when you get out of jail so that you leave town.

LOL... funny.

Legislatures seriously should have a review of both laws and regulation on a scheduled basis to determine if they are still applicable, need revisions or additions.

Regulations are normally, at least here, by the beaucrats. It takes more than a fair chunk of time to review old laws, check all new laws to see if the old one has been removed and if any existing law is affected by the old law's removal . Not a simple task and until a person is effected, sort of a waste of time.

Why? Most legislatures already don't get enough productive stuff done, so why would we want them wasting their time on these issues?

I love horses. It might be worth going to jail in Calgary. Think anyone would notice if I brought my own tack? Peace
