The OP admitted to saying something offensive and then asked why he or she got the response. Attacking people is offensive, even if it is for a good purpose.
So attacking a group of Nazis or pedophiles would be offensive?

The OP mentioned jokes in order to mock people who believe in a god. We are hardly dealing with Nazis or pedophiles.
But, no, I would not mock, (that's what we mean by "attack", right?) Nazis or pedophiles. It has nothing to do with being offended by such actions against them. That is just not my thing. I could hit one if they were trying to hurt me or another person. But mock them? Waste of time, in my opinion.
If believers post silly things, of course they will be mocked.
If non-believers post silly things, they too will be mocked.
It's just that the believers - especially the fundies - are allatime posting silly, mockable stuff.
Non-believers and liberal believers are much more sensible. They don't try to pretend that nonsense is real. Fundies are not bound by common sense or logic.
