I think that all physical things are symbolic of something spiritual. I believe that in heaven there will be a kind of intimacy, a oneness, or unity that sex in this life is only a shadow of.
When you come to know the real thing, the symbolic thing loses it's value.

I dont believe in heaven, but your point is valid. "love" is different than the motivating factor that helps us engage in such a, well, sloppy set of interactions to promote the species.
