From the time I was little, I would lie awake at night and wonder, Where did God come from? He must have been "born" somehow. From what?

When I asked my mother, "When was God born?" she said, "God has always existed, so God was never born." (Thanks, Mom. I'll send you my therapist bill.)

He had to come from somewhere/something. Right? So...from where? Or what? And what was "there" before God came into being? Was there just...nothing? And how could anything come from nothing? (In fact, it was the "universe--something from nothing" thread that made me think to ask this question.)

I'm not any mainstream religion but I do believe in God. I'm curious what others of any religion or philosophy believe on this.

Here's a tangent question...if god created everything, then he created himself, right?

This is one of many:

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness, because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes his eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse."
Romans 1:18-20

Right, if the belief is that God created everything. Personally I'm not sure that God created everything. Yes, that's definitely a mind-bending question.

Hi...thanks for responding...

I don't think it says anything about the creation of the world, though. Are you sure you're responding to the right post?

It is impossible to understand God with our limited human reason, however God can be known by intuition.

That's why it's hard for our human mind to grasp the idea of an ever existent God.

God is Sat-Chit-Ananda which is a triple consciousness. Sat is existence, Chit is consciousness and Ananda is bliss.

Whether you are an atheist or a theist, I think you must logically believe that something always existed; as to how something always existed, I think, is just an unanswerable mystery. I think all people simply must admit how the infinite is just such a great mystery--e.g. how come two circles of different sizes have the name number of points?

As an atheist, i believe that the universe has always existed but that it started on the big bang. Though it may seem contradictory, I could discuss this if anyone wants
