I wonder if some atheists wouldn't be so militant if some evangelicals weren't so incessant.

Honestly? Especially in today's world....I don't see it. Our nation is becoming more and more unchurched. We are not exactly a Christian nation by any stretch.

Glad you noticed. I'd like to think we had some part in that.

I think the internet is playing a part in it, to an extent. I think what people were afraid to say publicly, they are now bolder about saying.

For me it's not the "evangelical" that I have a problem with. I have a problem with men profiting off the belief system of their followers. For example I have a problem with Jim Jones and not the people that he murdered. I have a problem with Warren Jeffs and not the children he raped. I have a problem with the leaders of Scientology and not the people they are scamming. The only way to fight people like that is to show their followers things they might not see or ask the followers questions to get them thinking.

they aren't militants. people arguing that reason and common sense should own the field are not really militants. militants are more of the minimize, deny, and shun any science conclusion, no matter how valid, if "they" can use it. Militants are anti-religion at all costs. that irrationality never goes away. It takes a lot to have a child's/adolescent's mind grow up.

But yes, the push back against some religious people wouldn't be so hard if they didn't ram it down our throats.

You know, I never got that "ram it down our throats" thing. How are the actions of evangelicals considered so drastic?

We're asked to make disciples of all nations, and when I attempt to do so, I try to be gentle.

But it's been some of your experiences that it's much more violent?

I've heard many Christians declare people are going to hell if they don't accept what they're selling. That could be considered "ramming."

As well as using the legal system and legislatures to enact laws that reflect their religious beliefs.
