Because they're sinful men? Because they're not infallible? Because they, like everyone, make mistakes?
When the definition of "Christian" is determined by people that aren't Christians, that's going to happen. We've seen that play out on this forum.
On the other hand, almost all Christians have denounced Patterson's remarks. You'll find a few that support him, but it will be very few.
However, Patterson still is scheduled to deliver the Convention Sermon at the SBC's annual meeting Dallas, Texas in June. Why? How can the SBC allow that? Apparently they don't feel that sorry about his remarks. Where is their leadership?

Sucking up to their base. And that guy with the thing on his head....

No idea. You'll have to talk to the SBC about that. I have no idea why they'd have him. Try calling their HQ offices and asking them.

I'll s'plain: They're having him because they're fundies of the male persuasion. And they like the way he "thinks" and the things that come out of his mouth.

Seeing you are a Baptist Fundie, gosh, maybe you should try and change their minds? Or does that not work in your community, because the majority agrees with Patterson?

This. When you call baptist fundies on it, they back peddle, mumble, and run away. Don't want to stir the pot, so to speak.

I'm not SBC. I've also made it clear I don't support Patterson's comments. Nor does anyone I know of that live or work in my community.
Then talk to your fellow Baptists who are in the SBC. I'm certain you know many.
Actually, no. I don't. I really don't. I know there's an SBC church in town, but I honestly don't know anyone that goes to it.
