Of course believers declare the Bible to be infallibly true. Many of the claims in the Bible cannot be verified one way or the other. The Bible was written by ancient ignorant people. So it's no surprise that some claims made by the Bible are clearly false.

Why is it that ancient people have to be ignorant?...
Why is it that ancient people have to be ignorant?...
Because it is NOT a character trait. It is a state of knowledge and the knowledge explosion virtually guarantees that anyone from a prior era knew less than it is possible to know today.
Why is it that ancient people have to be ignorant?...
Well, the definition of "ignorant" is "lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated".
How well educated was the average person in biblical times?
How aware of the world were they?
How sophisticated were they?
My guess is that by today's standards, they were pretty ignorant, with occasional exceptions. Particularly if they believed some of the crazy stuff in the bible.
Why is it that ancient people have to be ignorant?...
Because people thousands of years ago did not have the benefit of the subsequent thousands of years of accumulated knowledge that we have. We are not smarter, but we know more today.

Exactly. Most of us could not start a fire without matches or weave our own cloth, but we know that the earth goes around the sun and that nobody can live inside a fish.
And as a minister who IS trying to sell books, you are only seeking to prove the bible is accurate.
And what I bolded...nonsense.
Here's what I see as the problem with people like you -- and I'll explain it by referring to Buddhist scriptures, which I "respect". I can look at the Theravada Tipitaka and say, "I don't believe it...literally. I think it is a series of stories that serve to teach various principles. I know it was written 454 years after the death of Buddha. So the only question is -- do the individual stories illustrate valid principles?" If you were to ask me, "So you don't think that the New Testament outlines valid principles?" "I'd say that I doubt that the Sermon On The Mount ever happened, at least as outlined in the bible, but it's a wonderful story that teaches some valid principles."
And what you believe you accept by faith alone. A common mistake by secular fundamentalist is that Christian fundamentalist take all of he Bible literally, like you like to accuse us of. That is not paret of fundamentalism.
