Here is a practical reason why the passion narrative in the gospels is so ridiculous: can we really believe that when Pilate questioned Jesus he hadn't already heard of all these fantastic miracles Jesus was performing----feeding 5000, then 4000 with a couple of loaves and a few fish and making the blind see, curing withered hands, curing the sick and most impressive of all--raising people from the dead?

Are Christians really that naive that they cannot believe Pilate would have offered Jesus a deal to save his life in exchange for raising dead Roman soldiers maimed or killed in battle, as well as feeding whole legions of thousands of soldiers out on the battlefield??????

Pilate, a dedicate procurator to Rome would have realized that with someone like Jesus on Rome's side Rome could conquered the whole world without losing a single man. Not a single soldier would ever have to die again. They would have had an endless supply of food for everybody. No more death, no more disease, no more starvation for the entire empire.

Yet we have not a word of such a deal being offered to Jesus during his interrogations with Pilate. Pilate displays not the slightest bit of interest in getting Jesus on Rome's side. He just frees Barabbas, a known enemy to Rome, and then crucifies the most valuable asset Rome has!!

Can you imagine what would have happened to Pilate when Tiberius heard about it: "You killed a Jew who could raise people from the dead and feed thousands with nothing? Are you out of your mind, you traitorous numbskull?"

Unbelievable! Totally completely unbelievable!

Jesus was considered a political troublemaker by the Romans.

OP, what’s up with your Jesus never existed threads?

The vast majority of Christians haven't a clue about the checkered beginnings of their own religion. Worse, they don't even know what's in their own Bible. I got wind of this when I had a brief conversation with my cousin, a flaming Bible-thumping Christian about Jesus' two different genealogies. She said, "What genealogies?" My jaw just about hit the ground.

As I investigated I realized Christians were worshiping a ghost just like I did. As a former Christian duped like everybody else I figure they deserve to know the truth about their precious savior: that at best he was an ordinary man who caused trouble for the Romans and was crucified. Everything else is pure myth-making. Details like the post #1 would NEVER occur to the ordinary Christian. They're completely clueless.

Odds are Pilate never heard much about the miracle claims and likely didn't believe them if he did hear of them. To him, Jesus was another local troublemaker. The scant evidence available doesn't suggest Pilate was considered very successful in his position.

Given that it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to know what you claim must be true based on your ANALYSIS of ancient writings, you are taking a tremendous and unjustified risk trying to destroy others' belief in Jesus and God, IMO. Tread softly, my brother. You are NOT God and your ability to determine the truth of such assertions is limited and extremely fallible. Temper your certainty and zeal to undermine the faith of others. Fight against the heinous treatment of others based on such beliefs because that can be supported, even if only on humanitarian grounds. The central message of Christ is that God IS Love and it has been corrupted by a focus on the "precepts and doctrines of men" that are judgmental and cruel when Jesus stressed love, mercy, and compassion. It is a travesty, but your destructive efforts toward belief in God are not helping at all.

I'm seldom on the fundamentals side, but there is not much to this thread . He likely would have seen such a person as a threat, not believing the claims himself but understanding that many might and that he might become a force to be reckoned with .

arctic, plueeze....don't insult our intelligence. A man raises at least two people from the dead, one of them 1.5 miles from Pilate in Jerusalem and the entire countryside is abuzz with this fabulous miracle and Roman soldiers are everywhere and they hear about it and they don't tell Pilate?????? Can Christians possibly be that naive???? Or are they that blinded by their loyalty to Christianity that they will suspend disbelief in just about anything no matter how much common sense it makes?????

No offense but that is harder to believe that Jesus rising from the dead. And yet I see Christians denying the obvious right before my eyes every day on this forum. Astonishing. One day you might snap out of it, but religion might just be too powerful a force to unblock your mind from seeing reality.
