Default Any Virgins Waiting Until Marriage?

I heard a statistic that 4% of adults in america are virgins. I would only assume that out of those roughly twelve million americans, many are virgins because "True love waits." Soooo... Out of all the city-data denizens, how many of you are there? I figured the religion thread was the best place to ask.

Also, those who are currently married but have only had sex with their current spouse, you may chime in as well with your thoughts.

Everyone else, yeah you lost it a long time ago. No lurking in this thread

Well next week I'll be turning 59 and I've never been married. I'm sorry but that's just too long to wait if you get my meaning.

There are very few people who still do this. Plus its embarassing to say you are going to wait in our sex-based culture so many people who are waiting probably will not admit to it. Everything revolves around sex in our culture today and children are pushed to experiment younger and younger all the time. I think it should at least wait for true love.

Where in the Bible does it say you are supposed to wait for marriage?

I was not ashamed to wait! I waited till my wedding day (night). I was 2 weeks shy of 23. My husband was 24 and a virgin too! ( very, very hard to wait...) still we did.
dated 9 months and engaged for 10 mo.

Other "True Love Waits";
my best friend and her husband
my sister and her husband
both sister-in-laws one married at 24 the other single now at 32. brother in law-to best of my knowlegde-virgin.

The Bible states in Gal 5: 19 " The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity...."

Eph 5:31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."

Just for statistical purposes we all live in southern CA, not in "po-dunks-ville".
where the pressure is appparent to have "safe sex" everywhere. not that its not in small towns ( no insult intended).

Those are words of wisdom! If you're buying a new car you take it for a test drive before you spend any money.

So women are analogous to test driving a Ford Explorer?

"sigh"

How does your mind work, my dear, sweet man!?

Relationships revolve around sex if you ask me. Its part of human nature and aside from conception, it acts as a perfect way to bond. Saving it until marriage is rather odd but hey, not the end of the world. Didn't feel guilty back them, not gonna feel guilty now

I wouldn't say a Ford Explorer. It depends on the woman... Some are like Lamborghini's and others are kind of like the wood-paneled '72 Oldsmobile Station Wagon that is sitting on cinder blocks in Jethro's front yard. And, sometimes, there's the Ford Explorer. Not exciting but perhaps something you'd let your friends see you driving.

I agree with coosjoaquin that relationships do revolve around sex. I also think that certain couples may be sexually incompatible for a variety of reasons and I don't think your wedding night would be a good time to make that discovery. Human beings are the only animals that get married and it's a creation of our own making, not a directive from God. Some animals do mate for life but others sleep around for lack of a better description. Dogs and cats are absolute tramps when it comes to their sexual behavior but that's just their nature (many humans also fall into this category). But I digress. Because I see nothing wrong with premarital sex I honestly think a couple should really experience living together simply to find out if it's going to work out if they get married. And by the way I mean no disrespect for anyone who chooses to remain a virgin until they're married. I understand that's a sincere belief, I just see the situation in a different manner.
