Can't See How My Life Has Been Worthwhile in the Larger Scheme of Things (churches, prophets)

No. I saw it. It's hard to discuss this without getting too personal.
I will just say for the last 25+ years, most of my life has been in service to others - and in recent years, I have stepped up my "unrecognized" service (like I said, hard to discuss - I didn't contribute to a thread asking what you do for others because I understand that bragging about it, or even talking about it at all, negates it - makes it about ego, and instead of a more "selfless" act (which I don't believe is even possible).
So I'm "doing" the best I can - and again, for me, it is not about "production" or "doing" - it is about "being." And I don't feel I am any "better" now than I was at age 5 - and if I live another 20 years and keep doing "good" things, I still won't be any "better."
You judge yourself too harshly. My sense is you're coming along nicely.
Somewhere I read that a person's personality is 95% formed at the age of 5. I believe this is true. The child is the father of the man. I've known people since they were children and they are pretty much the same in their 70's, as they were then and so am I.
I think life is to be lived. Many little things can turn the course of your future, but wherever you land you are still there. Make the best of it. Don't worry about what you have done or not done. Every day is a new day.
When I graduated 8th grade my godfather/favorite uncle wrote in my autograph book."Yesterday is dead, forget it. Tomorrow is not here yet, don't worry about it. Today is here, live it."
Life is here to be experienced and enjoyed. No matter how old you are, you can enjoy something every day if you want to.

I can't imagine WHY I contracted to come here. In reviewing my life, I have done some really dumb things (which I have subsequently learned were dumb, but they are so mundane, I don't think it would really matter if I learned the particular things or not - I could have read a book and learned the particular things I was dumb about instead of wasting a lifetime to learn them).
I have also helped a lot of people (like put time, effort and money towards their well-being) - so I "performed good deeds" - I am not sure how to evaluate those deeds - they didn't "help" me (other than to make me more compassionate in the moment - not long term, though).
I just don't feel in my old age I am a "better" person than I was when I was five years old.
Maybe earth has become a sort of hell (after modern humans evolved) and this is the place we end up in order to experience what true suffering is about? To learn how not to behave on a planet teaming with other lifeforms? To learn how to treat mother earth?
If you look at the overall collective behaviors of humans on this earth it's hard to not see how horrific the human species has been and continues to be. No, not all of the humans in our species behave horrifically but enough do that it typically can leave an imprint on our soul if we take the time to look around this earth and focus on what humans are doing.
It's much easier to create our own personal "dream" of existence than to continually be reminded on a daily basis how horrific humans are and that humans have done nothing but destroy this earth since the Industrial Revolution began. We have moved farther and farther away from communing with earth or nurturing this home of ours. We have no regard for other animal species right to exist...look up how many animals have become extinct due to human activity.
It's interesting to note that there are millions of animals on this earth that have existed here for millions of years in harmony with this earth. Modern humans have only been here for around 200,000 years...look at all of the extinctions we have caused, are continuing to cause, including our own extinction.
All I know is if reincarnation true then I know I don't ever want to reincarnate with a species that does not value other lifeforms, or the home that it exists upon. Or reincarnate with a species that is capable of the horrors that the humans species is capable of.

I agree. But heard Abraham Hicks say today that even the most atrocious things on Earth are causing expansion (paraphrased) - so it's basically "all good" (I don't claim to understand that theory).
Interesting comment. I think I am the only person on the planet who has never watched "It's a Wonderful Life." I have seen snippets of it, of course, because that's unavoidable.
The interesting premise is that the movie explores what if you had never lived...how would that affect others.
The concept appealed to me because of the logic of expanding one's consciousness over lifetimes. If there is no expansion, then it would be a useless concept, but I don't believe that's the case - I believe, instead, that I have failed in some way to do whatever it was I was supposed to do. But I won't know until I croak, so . . .
From what I understand about reincarnation, there is no memory of whatever or however you were 'before' so croaking isn't going to reveal much.
But, being as that's how it is, how do you know that now you aren't "better" than 'before'? Perhaps you're actually an "upgrade"
