Since most people in the U.S. identify as Christians why wouldn't there be more in prison? Their identification as Christian does not lessen the statistical odds that they might still be criminals.

Now on the other hand, if we are talking race, we do see a disproportionate number of non-whites incarcerated.

My personal experience with a friend, now deceased, who had spent eleven years in a Florida prison for writing bad checks, was that conversion to a religion is quite common IN prison, under controlled conditions and heavy regulation, as it gave purpose and hope. On the other hand, my friend, Doug, discovered remaining a Christian outside the confines of prison was challenging at best.

Quote:
Maybe it’s conversion. Ross explained that prisons collect information on religious affiliation from inmates as part of the intake screening process. That information gets stored as part of their case management. But, he added, “anywhere along the way, inmates can have their information changed to reflect a change in their religious status. Anyone can find god or lose god while in prison.”

The article states there are more conversions to the Muslim faith than any other, and it, too, is a highly regulated lifestyle.

So maybe its that people in prison need hope. Maybe its people that LIKE regulation and just about all religions have a higher degree of regulation.

But methinks, jumping to the conclusion that atheists don't get imprisoned as often is far more speculation than fact. And remember, all those statistics that are minimize the number of atheists in prison reflect only data of FEDERAL prisons. There is certainly a larger prison population in state and private prison systems that don't collect such data.

And to show how prison statistics are used politically (as I think the OP is attempting to do), the latest data I could find (2016) shows 42% of all incarcerated (again Federal level) are illegal aliens. But a closer look at that data reveals that 74% of them were being held for immigration violations. ( https://www.politifact.com/texas/sta...ird-federal-i/ )

Just pointing out the fact that viewing statistical data is like viewing women in bikinis: what they reveal is very interesting, but what they hide is vital.

Yes, it is it's relevance to the OP that is the problem.

But why would Christians build foxholes in the first place?

wow, you just make up stuff at will don't cha. it doesn't matter the context and meaning of the post to you at all ... does it?

You could care less about what is said so long as it lines up with anti-religious iron curtian dogmas and agendas.

'why would christians need to build foxholes anyway?" wow, just wow.

the reason is simple ... to protect their families from your ideology.
