I am having a hard time deciding whether or not I should stop. If I decide to continue, that $100 would come out in the form of my morning coffee at work or my monthly once lunch with my co-workers. I feel so torn. Hospital contribution can be stopped any time....I am just worried about the little girls contribution. Any thoughts? I feel awful.
I'm guessing "trust but verify" isn't part of your vocabulary.

My mother has sponsored children in other countries, and for a helluva lot less than $60/month.

Hell, annual tuition for the best most respected private school in India is only $354/year. Yeah, those are the people who graduate from that school then come here and take your jobs.

My mother got a letter every 6 months, with a recent photo of the child, a letter detailing the activities of the child and child's family and a hand-written letter from the child, usually in English, because other countries are much smarter and start teaching foreign language in the 1st Grade.

And, really, $40/month for a hospital? It's only $19/month for St Jude. I'm not advocating St Jude, I'm just saying you can reduce your contributions without cutting them off entirely, and you should probably take a greater interest in what those charities are actually doing.

As it pertains to charity, I only indulge under the following condition(s):
  • I invest a combination of my time and money directly, so as to ensure the result of such.
  • I go out of my way to verify that the lion's share of my contribution finds its way to the intended remote recipient(s) where such exists.
  • I'm primarily (although not exclusively) focused on keeping my proverbial house (read: local, state, country) in order, first.
