It's a good question, ShepsMom.

If you are interested, read this link Bosom of Abraham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And then read I Peter 3:18-20

And fire away more questions if you have any!

Life before Christ was filled with superstition, fear of the unknown and an attempt to make sense of a world and universe they could not possibly understand.

Life after Christ was pretty much the same, but people were not quite so fearful of angering the gods because they had a whipping boy. They still made up and clung to stories to try and explain Natural Science.

Life in the past two centuries has been a little different in that science is gradually explaining the unknown and is slowly making sense of the world & the universe. For Christians, however, it threatens their belief system and makes it impossible for them to accept it (Natural Science, I mean).

Life in the future will probably gradually convert to a religion of science, as evidence befomes irrefutable...and humans will learn to live with their own spirits and consciences...without depending on a Savior to erase the consequences of their actions.

Who/What did people believe and how did they get to heaven B.C.??
It is written in Revelation 13:8: And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

What lamb was slain from the foundation of the world? Well lets look at the foundation of the world and specifically the historical documentation of it in the book of Genesis.

Genesis 3:21: "Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them."

So, God clothed Adam and Eve with SKINS. SKINS that come from animals means that the animal died. So, God atoned for the sin of Adam and Eve using the blood of an animal. He then made clothes for them with the skins of this animal. This animal was a Lamb, and it represented Jesus Christ who was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Cain and Able both gave a sacrifice to God. God accepted Ables which was a lamb from his flock. Cains was not accepted which was fruit from the ground. So God verified that the sacrificing of a lamb was the method of atonement that is required. It is this method that was used by Noah after the flood, Job for him and his children, Moses, and the Isrealites and this was the main part of the occupation of the priests in the Jewish temple. No matter where you were in the world before Christ came to be the final sacrifice, you had to sacrifice a lamb in order to be atoned for your sins. If we look to history we find that sacrifices were performed by people all over the globe. The perversion of this method of atonment was when people began to sacrifice other animal types or humans. This is an abomination because it is not the way God chose.

Before Jesus Christ came and atoned for mankind, people did not go to heaven. When people died they went to sheol, the grave, the bosom of moses if they were righteous, or it is said they "slept with the fathers". This is all one and the same place. After Jesus died on the cross then heaven became open and all those righteous in sheol could then enter into heaven or paradise. Jesus said to the theif on the cross beside him "today you will be with me in paradise."

So before Jesus Christ came what did people believe in then? They believed in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Son of God and he was know since the beginning of creation. Job who lived after the flood said "What is the name of God and what is His Son's name?" David said in Psalms said, "Kiss the Son lest he be angry with you". Jesus actually went to Abraham with the two Angels that came to destroy Sodema and Gemorah. Jesus even said to the Pharasies "Abraham rejoiced to see my day." they thought this was imposible and asked who he was. Jesus replied "I am". "I am" is the name that God gave Moses to tell the people who was the one that sent him. I am, is the name YAH where we get Yahweh. It is also the name of Jesus which is "Yah Saves" or Yeshua which is translated into English as Jesus. The title Christ just means "anointed" or in the hebrew "Messiah" (Mosheah). This means that Jesus was anointed. A proceedure only done to kings or priests initiated into their office, ie. oil was poured on His head. That is why Jesus is our King/Priest.

So through Jesus at all times in history is the only way for mankind to be reunited with Father God.

I believe He is the ONLY way, because I believe the Bible and that is what Jesus said.
Hebrews 9:12 "Once for all time He took blood into that most holy place, not the blood of goats and calves. He took His own blood, and with it He secured our salvation forever".
That seems kind of primitive to me...It reminds me of most of the old religions that sacrificed animals and virgins etc...

Probably most of the human race through the ages has adhered to primitive religion. It is still widely practiced today in its pure form among preliterate peoples; in addition, many members of major religions (including Christianity) partake of primitive thought and practice to varying degrees.

The universe has a cyclic nature of eternal expansion and contraction, when the contraction cycle is finished everything is dissolved and creation starts again, our planet being a part of the universe has a cyclic nature too, and civilizations possess this trait as well.

When Christ came to the earth we were ending the descending cycle, he was born exactly when the ascending cycle began in the peak of the age of ignorance or kali yuga, back in time, before that were really advanced civilizations, like the vedic civilization of the hindustan, they developed a very advanced culture scientifically, socially, technologically, economically and spiritually, they created a scientific method to attain unity with spirit known as Yoga.

Unfortunately, when the ascending cycle reached it's peak, the descending cycle began and all this knowledge was slowly forgotten, and people started to be aware of what could be perceived by our limited human senses only, Christ had to come to the earth to restore the balance and mark the ascention of civilization again, unfortunately in that time people were very limited in knowledge to know the true meaning of Christ words.

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

What Christ really meant is that The universal consciousness or Christ consciousness is the only truth, life and way to the cosmic consciousness (the father) with whom he had become one, just like Buddha, Krsna, Adi Shankhara, Patanjali, and many others did before, the fastest and most effective way to reach unity with that universal consciousness is by Yoga meditation.

Fortunately we live in an era where knowledge is becoming more widespread, and sacred sciences are coming back, this eventually will create a more scientific vision of religion and a more spiritual view of science.

Very interesting thought... not sure I can get my mind around it. How can you have more proof of something/someone non-existant?

Anyway, back to the OP... good posts, thefer, ILNC and Nikk!

Most didn't get to heaven. There are levels to Gods kingdom, they were held captive by Satan, until Christ freed them. He has the keys to hell and death.

There were a few that lived righteously that went to the throne of God.
Enoch, Elijah, Moses, and a few others, Adam, Noah etc...

godspeed,

freedom

Hi Shep,
From what I understand, before Jesus, they did not believe they would go to heaven or hell. They knew they would die (no immortal soul) and go to the common grave. They did have hope of an earthly resurrection. Job spoke about it.
Even Jesus said, "No man has ascended into heaven but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man."—John 3:13.

Those who died before Jesus, remain in the grave until the resurrection on earth after armegeddon. They did not die under the sacrifice of Jesus' blood. Only those that died after Jesus can have a heavenly hope. There is only a select group that goes to heaven. There is a great crowd that will live on earth.

I have to disagree with this. No one will live eternally on this earth. It is to be done away with, and there will be a new heaven and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness. There will be a geat multitude there, that no one can number, from every nation.
All those who were righteous before Christ died and was resurrected have been covered by His blood. He died once, and for all.

Eccl 1:4 A generation is going and a generation is coming, but the earth is standing even to time indefinite.
Psalms 104:5 He has founded the earth upon its established places; It will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever.
Psalms 37:29 The righteous themselves will possess the land, And they will reside forever upon it.

A new heavens and a new earth sounds like a cleansed state. The above scriptures indicate that the earth will never be destroyed. God created the earth to be inhabited by humans forever. Righteousness WILL dwell on the earth after the unrighteous is removed forever.
