Post Atheists? Do they really exist?

Would someone intelligently explain the attraction to atheism? What is the draw to this religion? Has something occured either good or bad in your life to draw you to become an atheist?

What religion(s) offend you the most, and why? What can people of those faiths do to better understand you and cohabitat together respectfully?

I really don't understand how anyone can be atheistic. I see it as being as illogical as being a theist. Both are quite similar in that both require an enormous amount of faith.

How does being an atheist require faith? I think it requires a lot more faith to believe in God. I'm sure I'm missing an important point here, so I'd appreciate it if you'd enlighten me.

I don't think an atheist can disprove the existence of a god anymore than a theist can prove that a god exists.

Your right but also some what wrong. For some of us that do believe in Jesus, we have enough proof to know that Jesus exist, but some just have faith in him.

I started out has a Dystheist or a Misotheist. I really hated God. The death of a few family members contributed to that mentality. Researching, attending different churches, studying different religions, I came to the (my) conclusion that the God of the bible never existed so hating him/her was impractical. I've been calling myself an atheist ever since. But what I really am is an Antitheist. Not only do I not beleive in God, but I strongly loathe the influence of churches and religion.

Religious ppl were not the determining factor in turning me off, it was the concept of religion and a "benevolent" God that did it. That whole mind control thing is a little too much for me.

My wife believes in God and in Christianity. How do we get along? We just don't touch this subject. EVER! That is why I vent here about it.

Typically, unless you are aware of some physical revelation, the only proof of God's existence is abstract at best, which means no real proof. Proof meaning providing indisputable evidence.
I don't see how you can prove an atheist wrong any more than an atheist can disprove the existence of your god. Proving the existence of Jesus is even harder.

Well, first of all, atheism is not a religion. I am an atheist, not because anything bad happened, I am just completely turned off by all organized religion in general. I don't feel that organized religion promotes or allows any "thinking out of the box" mentality, it's pretty much buy into what the bible says or burn, but god forbid question anything. I was raised Catholic, which was nice enough, but then I married into a Baptist family which honestly reminded me of a cult. (no offense meant to any Baptist's) We divorced 5 years ago, whew! Anyhow, I am really at peace just living and loving every moment I am here, appreciating the wonderful people in my life. I really don't have any "problem" with religion in general. (okay, maybe the jehovah witness that knocks on my door, LOL!) Have a great day!

I read a good discussion on the internet once. I wish I could point everyone to it but it's long gone now.

Both of the guys were liberal Democrats and shared similar values. Both had studied religion in college (I think one had an undergraduate degree or graduate degree in Comparitive religions, I can't remember what religious degree the other had but it was similar). One was a Christian, one was an atheist.

They argued about the existance of God -- and that was what was so fascinating. They were both extremely knowledgable and were able to back up their arguments with scriptures, science, etc. It was really interesting. It's a shame everyone didn't get to read it because I think it would lead to greater understanding of how someone can end up an atheist and someone with the same information can end up a Christian.

I think a lot more people are Agnostic rather than Atheist.
