Like the bible says, the man is head of the household, the woman is here for man,, help mate, stand by him and pray for him..this is the order that God perfers..which is perfect in the eyes of God
I'd love to see what happens when a man tries to convince is girlfriend/wife that she needs to be subservient to him because the Bible says so.
They are called "promise keepers". The guy across from me at work is one. Very nice family oriented people. Completly honest and would never say a bad word about anyone.
In the christian, if the place of woman has been abused it is not the fault of the christian but its followers. The wife is the essential "other" of the male. She completes him and the two together is the dialectical synthesis (the term "man")-marriage is the physical manifestation of this synthesis. In this, the christian (as movement) discovered or furthered, the truly, romantic/erotic, and that is why, well one reason, it includes the "Song" in its book (despite the individual christian's needless embarrassment of it). For the greek, the female was essential in running the home (economy) but the relation did not essentially stand on the romantic (if one reads this, one finds she had authority over slaves, and many of these were male, as happened in the adoption from the OT into the christian)-there is some indication in this direction however, like Seneca and his ol' lady. For a man to abuse his wife then, is to abuse himself and actually to destruct himself, as the bible states. Borrowed from the greek, or the greek borrowed from the jew, the christian (as ideal) still has the woman as the essential partner in the "economy" (see in Proverbs somewhere, the book of Ruth, "now no male and female" saying of Paul. etc; actually the bible is very advanced on the issue of equality, as it goes in the direction of "spirit" rather than accidental qualities {race, gender, ethnic, etc, as the post modern does}, if this is not seen in the christian, the fault is with its followers). The mistreatment of females in our culture is not the fault of the christian (as idea) but by those who either used the christian poorly or had other motives in mind (I think most of it had to do with who was getting sex from whom-to control the access to females-probably more of a "natural hereditary inclination for the control the source of offspring" and the christian could be used as a justification-if one reads Aesop's fables, one finds a lot of humor here). The wife as the essential component of economy, should have moved them into larger management roles sooner, as the concept economy went from the ancient idea of household to the larger national structure that goes by the term economy (as managers of a self sufficient household, the concept now would also place them in politics, law, manufacturing, and such)-such a woman would be the one great asset for her husband and the home, and should have been a source of pride for the man-mine is.
