Default Faith and Logic

Do you think they are mutually exclusive? Why or why not?

No . . . but they are very different. Logic is for intellectual conclusions . . . faith is for spiritual convictions.

Why wouldn't they be compatible? Many of the same people that claim to be intellectually superior to the religious also have faith in unproven theories such as evolution.

excellent response!

if I'm able to logically prove something, faith is no longer necessary.

If God almighty came down from heaven into the middle of the superbowl, I would guess that many people would suddenly believe.
But faith would have nothing to do with it.

I call shenanigans, if you're speaking of "faith" in the spiritual/religious sense. I have absolutely no faith that any deity exists, yet I've accomplished a lot of things in my life. How then can you justify saying that without faith, nothing is possible? There are millions of people on this planet that prove you wrong with their every breath.

That might be a misquote of Hebrews 11:6

"Heb 11:6 Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."

-- Kind of like the old phrase "God helps those who help themselves". That's not in the Bible either...but it sure sounds like it could be if you didn't know better. Many "religious" folk like to quote that one.

That depends whether the existence of God has been proven to you or not. If you believe Noah's Ark has been found, if you've witnessed a miracle or something, or if you think there is a logic-based argument that proves the existence of God, then believing is the only logical response.

If, however, you think that we don't have any solid proof yet (or that we'll never do), if God is just a "gut feeling" for you, then believing require a "leap of faith" that is not logic-based.
