I don't. I wouldn't want a Muslim being president of our country. If our president was an atheist, I could probably handle that one if they leaned conservative.

^Why would you have a problem with a Muslim being president?

And what do you mean, "if they leaned conservative" Do you mean that if people don't accept Christianity than they can't have conservative values? Look, I gave up on Christainity when I was in about 5th grade. I am pretty much central on the right and left stances. A president's views on life and the universe shouldn't matter to if he is capable running this country.

I really wish people like yourself would stop pushing your religion into our politics.

so how would you feel if a Native American, a Buddhist or Hindu became president of the United States?

I wouldn't care, if they leaned conservative on a few key moral values.

However, much of our foreign policy is shaped by our relationship to certain countries in the Middle East (biggest one being Israel). Having a Muslim president would not be fine by me, mainly because religion does in fact play a role in how a man leads.

And I know plenty of conservative atheists. My mom being one I know personally.

Show me a quote where Gandhi supports abortion. I wouldn't mind having a peace monger for President. And how do you define 'liberal?' I define it by looking at people like Obama, Pelosi, Reid, etc.

As I said, I prefer Christians in office, as we have always had. But I also prefer conservatives, and if our president was a non-Christian but conservative on some key issues, I wouldn't care. I just wouldn't vote for a Muslim, regardless of his or her view points. Our foreign policy would take a turn for the worse.

FYI, Gandhi also considered himself to be a part-Muslim, among part-other religions. He tried to pick the good from various religions - which is generally unthinkable in the US since it is "my way or the highway" syndrome. We tend to be extremely sure of ourselves!

Personally, I would not pick a muslim IF he was guided by religion on foreign policy. Then again, I am also against the likes of Palin who claim direct link to god on international matters. Given all the wars caused by religion, I do not think a god of any reigion would be a successful foreign policy advisor.

I had many a conversation with folks who loved Obama, thought he was just what we needed, welcome change, I'm voting for him etc - when I asked those same people would you still vote for him if he was Buddhist or Athiest or non-Christian - the majority said "no way'. Further to this - they responded with they would either not vote, or would select another candidate that believed in their God. Didn't matter they had previously discussed how awful that other candidate was
