Religious thoughts aren't necessarily trying to discredit or discuss religion for a few minutes everyday, since most atheists find the belief in the supernatural to be rather silly or infantile. It's when someone starts thinking about it aside from the few minutes that they spend to discuss or discredit religious views. For example, Christians tend to not take the belief in Thor seriously, although they may try and discredit it or talk about what they think of it.

Jesus says that he is the way, the only way. So, if someone wants to get to heaven they have to go through Christ, as their lord and savior, their is no other way. Once again Jesus says that he is the way, the truth and the life. JOhn 14:6

God does not send anyone to Hell, people send themselves there. You have freedom of choice, you can accept Christ and go to heaven, or you can reject Christ and spend all of your eternal days in Hell. It's your choice. God died on the cross to save all of us from that place. If that means nothing to you. So be it. You will just become part of the Devils rebellion, and you will take your place on his team. Now after the first 10,000 years, you might find that he's really not that nice of a guy, but remember, you had a choice long ago. Yet perhaps you will find comfort with all those thinking people down there, such as yourself. I'm sure you will have millions of years to reflect how right you were. And then perhaps
after the first ten million years, you might have a change of heart, but I suppose that will be to late. Maybe then you might think about the mistake you made. And maybe then, you might recall how Jesus once said. "How shall they neglect so great a salvation?"

But God created the choice, knowing fully well that some would fail. Couldn't he have created a different hell, so that the choice is between, say, "heaven and an earth-like world" rather than "heaven and horrible torture"?

An interesting question for christians or muslims or any other relgions followers : What is your religious concept of Heaven? For example will you be floating on a cloud playing a harp and what will your form be? OR substitute heaven with hell..... What does your religion say about this?

That is your belief, but it very clearly isn't Cambell's.
