Centuries later - we live in a polluted world, our genes are infected. Its a wonder any of us reach 70 isn't it?!!

Actually, many of these conditions have existed for long, long - LONG times. The problem is that there just wasn't the medical science available to pinpoint the disease and give it a special little name.

And arthritis is most commonly caused by injury, so I'm betting plenty of our ancestors suffered from arthritis after a long day of hunting and gathering. Or riding dinosaurs, whichever you prefer.

Why would anyone want to live to the age 0f 900. Just think, how many more years you'd have to go before reaching retirement! Sit at your office desk and think to yourself; wow, only 500 more years to go and I can finally retire!
Besides, if people lived so long, our earth would have an incredible population density. Right now, it's about 7 billion. It could be something like 50 billion. Where would we house everybody? Cities would be vast areas of 100+ story apartment buildings. Forget about single family homes, there wouldn't be any room for such. How could the world feed everyone? What about all the waste from billions of people? Think about christmas shopping, you would have grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-children, everyone expects a gift from you! How about family reunions, would your family fit in the Superdome?

I think the question is about as relevant as if I asked "Why could Thor shoot lightning bolts from his fingertips but I can't?"

The bible is a book of fairy tales, many which have lessons to teach. But they're just stories.

We've only been polluting the environment since the industrial revolution which is in fairly recent times and yet human beings are living much longer now than those who lived in a pollution free environment. For centuries most of the population has worked in agriculture and there was no such thing as factories, automobiles and the other sources of pollution and yet they didn't tend to live very long lives. That doesn't seem to match up with your explanation.

But Adam and Eve are supposed to have been the ones who committed the original sin and hosed it up for the rest of us. The story of Adam and Eve has never made any sense to me in the first place but I'm wondering why Adam was supposedly blessed with such an incredibly long life and those of us who exist today who didn't have anything to do with any unauthorized eating of forbidden fruit are lucky to live until we're in our mid-seventies. Any thoughts?
Adam and Eve did die spiritually after eating the fruit. It just took longer for them to die physically than we do today.

One possible reason they had long life spans was in order to have many children. It's also my opinion that the effects of age were probably slower then than now. For example, Adam at 300 was probably more like us at 30. There were many long life spans recorded in the bible up until the time of Noah.

Now, some folks say God limited mankind to 120 yrs of life at that point. I happen to think he gave Noah 120 yrs to complete the ark. It's not worth bickering over and I'm not dogmatic about it. However, the life spans drop off steeply after Noah's flood.

My personal belief is a combination of changes in the earth's environment following the global flood and degredation of genetic information over time. Both of those reasons of course are ultimately the result of sin. Not just simply Adam & Eve's sin, but the sin committed by everyone after them. It's an accumulated effect.

We're all responsible for our own behavior and can't blame our sin on ancient ancestors. They may be the reason sin entered the creation in the first place, but mankind is plenty capable of sinning all on their own.

Good morning effie, or I guess it's afternoon where you live. I see that you're immune to scorpions so maybe you'll live an extra hundred years.
