Oh yes! He was a biologist first and spent many years in non-controversial scientific observation and experimentation. It was he who discovered by experimentation that earthworms build up soil. Before him, people thought earthworms were a pest.

Darwin had an impressive scientific mind. He was able to look at evidence and make logical analysis that future experimentation proved true - like Einstein did.

It was his investigations in more prosaic biology that led him to the theory of evolution. He was one who looked and thought about everything. That enabled him to make connections that more narrowly focused minds could not.

A fascinating man.
