One absurdity: In the stories of Genesis, Abraham marries two sisters, and when each of them cannot bear children, he has children with two concubines. Then God decides that the original wives can have babies after he allowed extramarital sex.
One absurdity: In the stories of Genesis, Jacob marries two sisters, and when each of them cannot bear children, he has children with two concubines. Then God decides that the original wives can have babies after he allowed extramarital sex.
I fixed that for you, ok?
The absurdity here, in my estimation, is not that he did what he did (as it was the custom of the day) but that at no point in the Old Testament did Bible god have much to say about these type of arrangements and ironically, so did the rules in those patriarchal societies. Somehow and somewhere along the line, the practice became "sinful" (having women on the side) and illegal (marrying more than one woman) in some places.
Adam had more children other than Cain, Abel and Seth according to the Bible. Adam lived to be over 700 years according to the Bible. I think, if I recall, he was still squirting life giving water past 500 years old so chances are his early children were hundreds of generations into posterity creating tons of female possibilities for their great uncle hundreds removed.
Speaking of absurdities...remember bible god smote someone dead for doing something we would consider rather responsible today. He "pulled out" rather then impregnate a woman he apparently had no concern for. Somehow the "inspired" biblical writer had direct communication with that god and knew he smote him.
I think the man who "pulled out" probably died from the same genetic problem that his brother died of. He pulled out from his brother's widowl It was the law to take on the widow of your brother at that time.
Cain's wife was probably his sister. Incest was not a sin before the law against incest was given as Romans 5:13 explains.
But atheists have no clue what the history of man is since they don't know from which "primate" man allegedly descended. So they have no clue who the first speaking man was. So the absurdities come from scientists, not God. Sorry.
wow, that is some of the best sophistry I've read in quite some time.
You've collected your mental faculties to the extent that you can operate a computer and compose text that is published to the entire world on the Internet, yet you still believe in the literal truth of the stories found in the Bible. The more I encounter this among present-day Americans, the more difficult I find it to believe.
You got that right bro...some of 'em even argue against their own beleifs, then say "well, I've got a right to believe what I want." --How lame!!!
