Strange that this post brings to mind the dogma taught to suicide bombers. The most important thing you possess is your life. It should not be taken lightly or squandered in the hope of something you think is better, but do not really know exists. To devalue your life on anyone elses in favor of myth is, in my opinion dangerous.

I'm thinking that timeless questions are pretty much never actually answered by some guy writing a pop-psych book.

My particular belief is that we choose our life and path. I feel that this was their then and now, and yes it all does end at some point. My heart goes out to all the friends and families.

I wish there were simple explanations for complex problems. It'd make life easier. The one guy who missed the plane said "God was with me or watching me." What about the 49 who died? It is a perspective of a child almost, believing from the egocentric point of view that you were spared. From the larger view, this doesn't work or fit.
I don't even think new agey karma comes into play either, you were whatever "before", so now you get a plane accident. It 's just rediculous to me, too.
I think the answers are elusive and since that drives people crazy they have to come up with some explanation, anything is better than a shade of grey.

Well I don't know about you all, but while the guy who said "God spared me" sounds like a childish insensitive creep at first glance, I would hope I would not be expected to think with robotic, rational clarity if I were recently one last-minute-change-in-circumstances away from plunging to my death.
