In my own spiritual journey, I've found several entities (including, amongst others, the one we call Jesus) bear some sort of responsibility in helping me experience what I personally came to experience and create in this life, but I've never gotten the sense that the big "God" is involved in any way.
I can relate to this--there are good spirits around, somehow we can engage them or find them (rather they probably find us). Not sure of the specifics, but it does happen. But, as far as "God" with a capitol G, not the way most people think of it. Energy is a real phenomenon, too, but it doesn't have to have a new age package to it--maybe just the way the natural universe is.
Why even ask? Death is inevitable. Our loved ones die, strangers die, we will all die someday. Jesus said we should not be obsessed with worldly riches because this physical life is transient. What is more important and should be of greater concern to us is the future... when we will all be resurrected to face judgment... and eventually given eternal life or meted the final death.
Then, why should those who avoided death give thanks?
This is the usual christian response. If people do not get killed the christians give thanks to god. If people get killed the christians shrug their shoulders, say "oh, well", and mumble some feeble excuse or justification. When, to any thinking mind, many questions arise, does god play favorites? Or does a god even exist?
Your not including abortions. Just double it and that covers the USA.
thousands of people die everyday from starvation and treatable diseases in 3rd world countries yet religious people get in an uproar about the ending of a possible life. I would spend a little less time worrying about unwanted unborn children and maybe a little more about the ones who have been born and r suffering unnecessarily.

Having had so many here praise and thank God for saving all the passengers on the plane that ditched in the Hudson River, I would like to know whether they have any thoughts on Gods seeming inaction in Buffalo today?
Especially as there was a human rights activist on board described by one of her colleagues as 'irreplaceable' and a 'truly wonderful, great human being.' Not good enough to warrant God's saving hand obviously.
God was where he has always been when that plane crashed. He is sovereign and in control.
Funny...but you don't usually see people whining when God does good things for bad people.

It's not exactly whining. I mean, you can't complain about God if you don't believe in his existence. It's more about pointing out a contradiction in some people's beliefs.
If you believe God is a complete non-interventionist, fine. If you believe he's a petty God who sometimes save people and sometimes kill them, that's also fine (regarding internal coherence). But you can't have it both ways.

Ever heard of Christian Childrens fund, or any of the hundreds of Religious organizations that feed, provide medical, homes, water, etc.... I think doing both is very important.

Yeah - the new age folks tapped into something true and then turned it into something almost as off kilter as regular religion.
I say we just focus on the Energy and we'll get everything we need.

I'm sorry, I really didn't meant to make it sound that trite. A plane crash like that is absolutely horrible. I don't mean to belittle anyone for that. I realize how bad that sounded.
I understand your point. My thought though, is that God is in control, and on the throne.

I don't believe he's a non-interventionist. This was his plan. He controls everything. He wanted that plane to crash for some reason. That's just a fact.
