I recognize this thread was to make the fundamentalist feel good, but I have wondered if we took the Bible and started breaking it down book by book correcting all the errors and replacing the myths with good science, and secular values if we could end the problems religion has and is causing to life and humanity. The real question is after you ditch the myths, and bull would anything be remaining?
I read one book which said if society was to address each verse in the bible with an open mind the Christian faith would die. It is an interesting possibility.

I hope to clarify what I wrote in this thread addressing the updating of the Bible, then perhaps you can see what I see.
Here is one person's website and he's scholar, he went to the seminars and such. From some of the things that I have read that he has written I consider him to be a person, even though smart, he has a strong need to be heard. Okay so not spending to much time, just looked up a topic I thought may be interesting: L. Ray Smith - The Lake of Fire - Part 8
"But the Comforter[Greek, parakletos, also called the Consoler, and in I John 2:1, Advocate in KJV, and Entreater in the CLNT] which IS the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26).
The Advocate or Entreater in I John 2:1 IS the parakletos, The Comforter orConsoler of John 14:26 IS the parakletos,. and we are told that it is Jesus Christ"Holy Spirit" that is said to come AS the Comforter is also Jesus Christ, Himself. Furthermore, the "Holy Spirit" that is said to come AS the Comforter is also Jesus Christ,
See this guy he takes a word, like he did above "comforter" and from several (what does he have just here, CLNT, Greek, KJV) translation of text----honestly I get lost and I think many other people, I feel as though they get lost too in most cases.
I have seen many references made to Bible undated versions I honestly at this moment in time, can't think what they are and how many; is there like the International version and then there is one where they took out the thee's the the thou's and well when it is all said and done it makes me wonder, what else did they take out?
If you ask me it helps to keep us diverted, keep us in constant debate, keep us from ever really drawing a like minded conclusion, keep us from becoming united as one.
As for as myths in the Bible, the only myth is the one that is created by man.
The fact of matter is, Bible (and all other scriptures) is written by humans, and humans gain knowledge as society advances. If Bible still keeps "earth on foundation" type of outdated human knowledge, it makes its followers backwards, and uneducated.
Religions were created in the old days when humans have very limited knowledge about nature. Those knowledge seems outdated in the space age.

I think that what we'd wind up with is a stilted, exceptionally boring book that would come under criticism by virtually everybody. And what's more, by today's standards, it would fall completely off the charts within a month.
