It seems that often times when theists don't know the answer to something they just resort to the whole 'god did it' explanation. Case in point, the cosmological argument. There currently is no natural explanation for the origins of the universe, therefore 'god did it' is the explanation. People used to do this with many other phenomena. For example, people didn't understand how the sun worked, therefore the sun was controlled by Ra. No one believes this anymore because it has been proven to be the work of natural processes. My question is, why do some people have to know the explanation to unknowns such as the origin of the universe, even if that explanation isn't substantiated by logic or science? What is so wrong with not knowing the answer?

Nothing wrong with admitting that we don't know. That takes a weight from our minds when we say that. It's ok not to know everything. Who in hell wants to know Everything ??? Not I.

This maybe true , but you cannot deny we are in an age of men seeking knowledge and discovery .

I mean we weren't content with just going to the moon , we are trying to find a way through our knowledge to discover and put a man on mars.

I'll second that! As a species, humanity tends to be curious. We aren't happy with gaps in our knowledge. Of course, rules were made to be broken, so you can always find individuals who take the opposite tack and prefer pat answers that don't require any thought.

I'd rather admit that I don't know than make myself look stupid by pretending that I know the answers.

BTW, 42.

Nothing is wrong with not knowing the answer, I think recognizing the lack of an answer is a strong position to start with, and if we knew all the answers it would sure be a dull world.
The catch or issue here, is when you don’t know an answer, don’t make up myths to fill in the gaps and than force those myths on everyone else less they be killed for not accepting your fairy tale.

I like not knowing everything. It gives me something to look forward to when the day gets boring! I can then spend some time doing research on somethng that may be troubling me or if something doesn't sit right.

Maybe should change the subject question to "What is wrong with the unknowable?"
