There's a detailed physical description of heaven which is called New Jerusalem in Revelations 21. It will be surrounded by a square shaped wall which is about 1500 miles on each side as well as 1500 miles high which will be made of pure jasper. The city itself will be constructed of pure gold, including the streets which are described as transparent as glass. There will also be twelve large gates, each made from a single pearl (that would take an extremely large oyster to produce such a pearl ) and the foundations of the wall will be adorned with every jewel. So basically heaven would make the most opulent building that exists today look like a dog house.
This appears to be much different from the spiritual realm that many people think of when they imagine heaven because it's being described as a physical city that is constructed of the most precious materials that are known to man. And given the fact that streets and wall are discussed it would lead you to believe that the occupants of these fancy digs will be living in buildings. Also, if the outer walls are 1500 miles high then maybe these buildings are gold skyscrapers. Anyway, the Bible does paint a picture of a very spectacular heaven. So for those who believe in heaven believe they're going to be spending eternity in a pure gold condominium? That's how it sounds but what do you think?

Mr. Montana, Sir, not sure if the spiritual matches the material realm, but certain individuals are trying hard ...

One has to ask oneself, of what use are material things in the spiritual world.

It's described in terms people can understand. I honestly don't know if we really will be living in buildings as described, or if it'll look different.

You are correct, though--in that it will be spectacular.

If there is truth to John 14 coupled with the idea that Jesus is still to return, well, he's probably still hammering a few nails (no pun intended).

This is just New Jerusalem, the governing city of the world. The bible says that there will be four final places: New Heaven, New Earth, New Jerusalem and the Lake of Fire. Hell will be cast into the lake of fire. So your description is just of the city of God which came down out of heaven, sort of like a flying fortress.

I have been to heaven and in the current heaven, which will soon be the old heaven, there are houses and parks and trails and trees and bushes and mountains. Lots to explore.

I think God allows houses in heaven, because humans are familiar with them as a surrounding. Heaven is perfect in temperature and peace and joy. There is no need of a dwelling, but it is a familiar thing for us humans. Jesus said "I go to prepare a place for you" and "in my fathers kingdom are many mansions". These houses in heaven are not like houses on earth. There is no bathrooms, or bedrooms. They are a lot smaller than you'd think a mansion would be with endless empty halls. Rather they are neat and conciece. There is chairs and couches, tables and something that you would refer to as a kitchen, but not really needed for food. Though you can eat food in heaven. The houses have many wonderful things, but not cluttered.

The physical description given in Revelation and elsewhere is only to illustrate heavenly things to earthly people who would otherwise have no concept of an invisible spirit-realm or dimension. There is actually nothing physical about the heavenly realms in which spirit persons inhabit. But here's an interesting thought, it might be tough to imagine (I know because even saying it, it's tough to put myself there), but put yourself in the place of an invisible spirit in a spiritual realm, how would you describe to physical material beings what it's like there ???

So in the simplest terms, you'd draw off things familiar to the ones you're trying to teach. I teach all the time and often like simple illustrations that draw from familiar things in life. Complicated word pictures or illustrations usually get lost in the translation. Although you may not believe in the teachings of Jesus, one of the things he was a master at was using easy to understand familiar situations in life to help other comprehend what was otherwise buried in the intellectual religious dogma of the existing Clerical Hierarchy of the time. People were drawn to his way of teaching. So the descriptions you described in the reading were never meant to be taken literally or that is physically, if that makes sense.

Here's another one that you may not have considered, but I have posted it here somewhere before. Actually it's rather interesting. Now of course you don't have to believe this, but hear me out.

It's a description of the once loyal heavenly Cherub (Angel) who apparently had some responsibility of oversight with regard to the Garden of Eden. The comparison is being made here between the King of Tyre who was once favorable towards God's chosen nation Israel, even providing skilled craftsman and building materials for the building of the Royal Houses and even the Temple itself, but by this time it seems there was an ugly chance of heart with the King of Tyre towards the nation of Israel , whom he now viewed as an enemy. The city or Kingdom of Tyre became exceedingly wealthy as a commercial center and famous for it's beautiful products. The line of Kings of Tyre began to think too much of themselves and they became haughty and began to oppress God's nation Israel.

This is where the comparison is made between the once loyal spirit creature called Satan who was once a part of God's heavenly organization of Angels. Jehovah God gave an indication through the prophet Ezekiel of the basic cause for the deflection of both the Tyrian Dynasty and Satan. Here's partiallly what was described in:
Ezekiel 28:11-17 - "Young's Literal Translation"
BibleGateway.com - Passage Lookup: Ezekiel 28:11-17;

Quote:
[13-17]"In Eden, the garden of God, thou hast been, Every precious stone thy covering, Ruby, Topaz, and Diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, and emerald, and carbunkle, and gold, The workmanship of thy tabrets, and of thy pipes, In thee in the day of thy being produced, have been prepared.

Thou [art] an anointed cherub who is covering, And I have set thee in the holy mount, God thou hast been, In the midst of holy fire thou hast walked up and down.

Perfect art thou in thy ways, From the day of thy being produced, Till perversity hast been found in thee.

By the abundance of thy merchandise They have filled thy midst with violence, And thou dost sin, And I thrust thee from the mount of God, And i destroy thee O covering cherub, From the midst of the stones of fire.

High hath been thy heart, because of thy beauty, Thou hast covered thy wisdom because of thy brightness, On the earth I have cast thee, Before kings I have set thee, to look on thee."
Much like the King of Tyre, the spirit creature who became Satan once had the wisdom needed to fulfill any assignment God gave him. Instead of being thankful, he became puffed up with pride, arrogance and selfishly desired worship from the creation God had just set in Eden. To get back to your original question and the above reading, how else could you describe an highly stationed invisible Angel of a given privilage of oversight of a new creation ??? How would you describe to humans this powerful Angel's most admirable qualities at that time, the adornment in a sense, though invisible ??? I would'nt know where to begin, but apparently precious gem stones, which are highly valued in the eyes of physical humans were used to illustrate just such a magnificent angelic Cherub of Eden and these qualities which were abandoned by him.

There's of course a simpler way of illustrating this further that any of us could very easily relate to. How would you describe to a blind person from birth what color is ??? Understand that just merely talking and trying to describe would'nt really explain something that the individual has never appreciated and known ever to exist. However, you could take their arm and hold it literally out to the warm sunlight and explain to them that is what yellow or orange are like. You could have them hold a very Hot cup of coffee and explain what red is like. Maybe for green you could explain the feeling of shade on a hot summer day, or blue with cold running water. Anyway , you get the idea, it's only illustrative.

BTW , all those extreme argument threads about various explanations of Israel's return and restoration ??? Forget it. It's only illustrative of the spiritual Kingdom. The literal modern day nation of Israel will never return to God's favor and restoration again.

But then, you already knew that!!!

I hate to nitpik but if you can eat food in heaven wouldn't that make a bathroom necessary?

I know who is supposed to occupy the fourth final place but who is supposed to occupy the first three? I'm assuming that New Jerusalem would be located on New Earth which would look a little strange because the dimensions of New Jerusalem are approximately the size of the moon. Anyway, according to your belief would the souls of human beings be located in all four of the final locations?

Frankly, I have no clue what if anything will exist in heaven.
But I suspect that it is perfect, in form and function.

and there will be no building code violations
