Christianity is responsible for the attempted, systematic eradication of ancient cultures and religions on every single continent on the planet, save one.

Antartica.

The only difference today is that secular laws keeps Christianity and Christians from commiting the atrocities of the European Expansionist period after the fall of the Roman Empire, and the Colonising Periods of Endland, France, and Spain. While the Sword may no longer be used, prostylization techinuqes are still well in use today, including targetting the desperatly poor, the disallusioned youth in non-Christian areas, etc.

Christians are indeed "guilty", guilty by association, as guilty as each and every American is of the atrocities committed by our government.

There is no clear connection between the ending of the Mayan calendar cycle and the Mayan concepts of what they called the Sun Ages or World Ages.

At the winter solstice sunrise on December 21, 2012, our sun will not precisely cross over the center of our galaxy.

There will be no convergence of terrestrial or celestial disasters occuring all at once on December 21, 2012. Neither will this date herald the advent of some form of global ecstatic leap in our collective consciousness that will suddenly usher in a golden age of instant spirituality.

The bogus end-of-the-world Mayan prophecy for December 21, 2012 finds no parallels with similar prophecies that supposedly exist among several cultures and religions in other places of the world.

So what will really happen in 2012? Probably nothing at all. And when the would-be prophets are left to pick up the pieces of disappointment, more than likely they will cover their embarrassment by claiming the end-date calculations were wrong, or better yet that 2012 was indeed significant but that disaster was miraculously averted. Either way, a new doomsday foreboding will be heralded for farther in the future, and the pathway of paranoia will be blindly followed by many all over again.
The World has been Ending for some two thousand years now. Comets, earthquakes, invasions, etc have all heralded some form of world ending.

In 2013, some new "Herald of Armegedon" will arise.

It's interesting that you bring this subject up, look at what the communist regime in China is doing or has done in the past of its people and its cultures and look at the resistance that the ordinary people has put up against the regime in the past, the communist regime in China at least as being smart enough to learn how to change to the needs of its people but it has lost its ancient culture and wisdom do to the ignorance of those in power, eventually, in the far future China will also suffer some of the economic downfall that has befallen The United States, we are living beyond our means and greed and corruption has become the norm and we have begun to have little regard for our natural resources and are exploiting them to the fullest and this can only last so long before the Earth will turn against us, we have become like a cancer to this planet and IF things are not corrected, we cannot survive. It's interesting to realize that we are the only species of mammals that are capable of exterminating ourselves and everything around us and yet we have little regard for that responsibility.

Funny though, I did read that one fellow in, the 20s I think, said the world "as we know it" would end on October 29, 1969. Well, nothing happened...at least that's what it looks like. But, that was the day the first version of what would become the Internet came on line. So, maybe 2012 will be the "end of the world" but will be something none but a few notice, like maybe some guys will invent a time-machine in their basement or something.

OMG, Its the end of the world!!!!!

There was an article in the paper recently saying that Mayan tribal elders are sick of this talk of the world ending in 2012. They get letters from children asking why they, the innocent children, are going to have to die so young. The descendents of the Mayans don't talk about the world ending. The elders say that other Mayan calendars speak of dates far beyond 2012. As they explained it, 2012 marks the end of a cycle in their calendar system, just as other cycles have ended before.

The whole thread is a full 48 hours off! The Mayan date of 4 Ahau 3 Kankin corresponds to December 23, 2012...not the 21st. So rejoice; we've all got two more days of fun and games.

The mayan calendar moved in cycles. 2012 is when the last recorded cycle ends. They stopped because there wasn't any reason to figure further into the future and their civilization collapsed shortly after. It's as arbitrary a date as any other on the calendar.

But I am guessing the next couple of years are gonna be wild anyway, judging by current events. Also, people in general seem fearful, angry and aprehensive (not to mention armed); add that to 2012 paranoia and a crumbling world system and you just might get your apocalypse anyway, wrought by our own hands instead of some phenomenal cosmic event.
