Anything in particular about it? It's doctrines? It's practices? The scandals surrounding it?

That's debatable. There was plenty of Christianity in existence prior to them.

It doesn't make any difference to me. I don't believe in any of their teachings.

They really know how to put on a show, and their churches are typically gorgeous. Add to that, they are richer than Croesus.

Obviously...since I'm not catholic, I don't recognize the authority of the pope.

I think the catholic church has a lot of issues in its doctrines. They are wrong about the issue of justification, their mariology and other issues. I mean their official teaching is. That's not to say that anyone and everyone that calls themself catholic is hell-bound....but if you follow all of thier teachings, you are not a Christian as the Bible defines it.

True, there were Gnostics, Marcionites, Montanists, Ebionites, etc. However, it was what is not the Catholic Church that deemed the former to be heretics. The Catholic Church picked the very books you have in your Bible. So in a sense, whatever Protestant sect you belong to can rightly be called an offshoot of the Catholic Church. And as far as Pope go, Protestants have plenty of them; men in authority who they look to for doctrinal guidance.
