Default Has Mankind Outgrown The Need For The Second Commandment?

Of the Ten Commandments, the one forbidding the worship of a carved image seems to be completely outdated. It seems to me that anyone who would construct some sort of physical image with their own hands such as the Golden Calf as described in the Bible would have to be incredibly stupid to worship it in the first place. I don't think this is something that people do anymore or if they do I'm certainly not aware of it. The descriptions in the Bible of such events sounds like people would actually kneel down and worship an object as though it were a God itself. It also strikes me that this is considered to be a very important commandment and it's given alot of emphasis in the Bible. Do you think that mankind has perhaps outgrown that level of superstition for the most part and this is an activity that we've become too advanced to engage in?

The original prohibition was against carved and engraved images. But I think he would be okay with die cast, or maybe plastic molded images.

But more seriously, A lot of Christians worship the bible as if it were a God. They deny any human influence in it's making, and give it a since of inerrability that the people who wrote it probably never assumed. It's a God begot by a God, for most purposes.

if your chiristian you already have made another god and worshiped him, his name is Jesus, because if I'm correct Jesus never claimed to be God himself, that was something bestowed upon him by his followers. It was cemented by Constintine when he proclaimed christianity as his on faith!

One need only read this forum to see that many today worship a physical idol carved from trees: the Bible.
